Welcome to my Data Design Resit page.
By: Ralph Bosman
For my resit I did research on surveys first, so I could get a better grasp on what I needed to ask and what kind of question I wanted to ask. I also checked multiple sites from their survey outcomes and what they wanted to tell.

I wanted to make around 20 questions for the survey since more questions would give me better insight on what kind of things they could ask for. It was harder than I originally thought to have people participate in my survey, but I managed to get the minimum of 5 people.

I made the first questions about travelling, since this will be a major factor for a lot of students when they need to travel again to school. The second is focused on how school is handling the corona pandemic and it gives quick insight on what is still lacking. I also added the question from the assignment in the survey, but I made it a bit different. I did this because it is of course a question that everyone would answer different and I could pinpoint maybe a common ground from the answers. The third is about how people feel and their mood during the quarantine and how the school is helping the students. All the open questions are not required to answers, since I don’t want people being forced too much in answering everything, since from personal experience those are the questions people would walk away from. The fourth questions are a joke I put in so people feel more relieved at the end, since it is serious and kind of personal questions. I felt it needed that at the end.

Find a trend.

Looking at the travelling section I could see that all the answers vary a lot, with the exception on if you would like to go back to school. Clearly people want to go back again and from further answers I can see why also. There seems a higher need from attention seeking towards each other in social contact.

Looking in the second section education, I see people are satisfied with the arrangements and have a decent workspace from home, yet they clearly all say that their studies are suffering. When I look at the open answers, their seems some alignment again with social contact. The social contact is clearly low for most people and from my survey I can see that this is the trend in my survey and that this is something that I need to think a product for. If I look at the answers for product. I see that there is a need for Clarity and simplified experience with what is now.

In the fourth section, people seem to have a decent amount of social contact, but are not feeling happy. This is of course in contrast with the previous outcome, but thinking logically I can conclude that this is likely because of the substance of the social interaction. If I think of a normal situation in class people could talk to each other but also form groups with each other and then talk again with others. I think this is a good basis for my product.

The Product.

My product should be something that is easy to use and gives people the sort of experience as if they are in a real classroom with each other.
I think setting up an online platform like zoom and Microsoft teams is a good platform, but it does not feel personal and it isn’t that private, since everyone in the group can hear you. Still with some work I think that with some adjustments it can be made into a product that can help with people feeling less lonely, since there is a need for social contact.

My product would work as follows. Its basically a platform like Skype, Zoom, Microsoft teams & Discord. Where people could chat and talk with each other. Just like a classroom I think it would be nice that people could form their own small groups and enter each chat freely (video, voice & text). Trying to mimic a classroom as much as possible while keeping in mind that it is a digital platform.

I think functions as status like online, offline, do not disrupt could proof helpful too in this kind of platform. The platform is supposed to mimic a class room I think an alert with a few seconds before the start would work, for example when a teacher wants to say something to a whole class or a meeting with a whole class would start. I self like dynamic interactive design, so the platform was designed with this in mind as well. The user can drag and drop his own bubble in any conversation. No group can be closed of from other. The social interaction with each other should build enough trust and understanding when someone says is portrayed as “do not disturb”. Green is “online”, Blue is “do not disturb” & Gray is “Offline”.

In the left there are bars, one for the open class chat and on for the temporary group. The conversation in the temporary group is only available during the active session. The open class is chat is used for letting the whole group know some information or ask questions.

For the rest if you want a video chat a pop-up window would appear with the group you are in chat with, unless the teacher has a meeting planned for that time, which is noted in the screen at alarm.

Of course, to complete this platform as it is meant to, you need a lesson from a teacher. During the time that there are no explanation or meeting people can chat and with each other and work on their project, whether they do it alone or as a group, just chatting could help make things more pleasant and thinking of ideas. Of course it should feel as a lessen with the class meetings, explanations and feedback to complete it.

People find it hard to seek each other in these times online for various reasons. I think it should be encouraged by the school so that everyone could participate and join a group and talk or just listen, like some do. Some people find it hard to reach out to others, especially online. They don’t have a close enough relation with others and the school encouragement could help with this and together with this platform for a better social place.

See below for the example I made of how it could look like and work.

The given assignment: Target audience: Art academy students

Times have changed because of the pandemic. This affects the way students receive education. Not only will this be a great shift in the way they experience the learning materials, relationships among fellow students and teachers will change as well. An interesting topic to research!

• Set up a small questionnaire (with google forms) and ask 5 fellow students to give your insight on their experience regarding education during the pandemic.
• Find a trend!
• Create a product that helps students in the art academy with receiving education most efficiently.
• What makes this product work?
Explanation:

Most of the data of the survey that I found are about the virus and how the state is handling them. I took note that most questions are very short. I personally gave the answers that people could agree with, a bit of text. It gives more value in my opinion then just yes or no. I took some of the example’s way of formatting their surveys in different categories. I made my own (travelling, Education, prevention & Important ones). I started with travelling, since the other surveys all asked about this too and it could help me to think of some questions and give people a safe introduction and understanding of my survey as well. For the rest it was a bit of playing around with googles survey settings and see what were the possiblities.
